Winding Down #02
Mindless scrolls turned musings.
Happy Sunday and welcome to note #02 of Winding Down. This week was quick and chaotic, leaving me with few opportunities to take a deep breath, slow down, and absorb the world around me. Life in Charleston is beautiful in that way—it can be as fast or slow as you want it to be. No two weeks, or even days, are the same.
I did manage to go antiquing yesterday with some friends, which filled my cup just as I had hoped. We laughed, we perused, and we most likely inhaled an insane amount of dust. I walked away with a set of smoked glassware and a pair of small wooden frames. Not my biggest haul, but both finds were so sweet, simple, and undoubtedly a beautiful addition to my home. Photos to come!
Dreamt About
Food styling immediately catches my eye, especially when blended seamlessly with fashion. A dear friend, Anne Peyton, sent me this via Instagram, and I must say she knows me well. Anne Peyton, or AP for short, is one of the most talented and thoughtful people in my life. I highly recommend scrolling through her website, which is beyond visually appealing, and exploring her incredible work in graphic design and art direction. Anyway, she sent me this photo from artist Katerina Shukshina who is known for styling all of Earth’s bits and bobs in such a unique way. It’s inspiring to see how other creatives perceive the world and to experience the joy in their work.
Read Through
Potentially one of my favorite Substacks since joining the platform and discovering new writers, Trash Panic by Glenn Mae, regularly features a variety of vintage and secondhand finds along with thoughtful reflections on style and personal notes. One of her most recent newsletters, “Try Not To Fall For It,” was arguably one of my favorite reads. It dives through thought provoking moodboards (which I haven’t been able to get out of my head), delicate conversations (the not-so-desirable Alexa Chung x Madewell collaboration), and ends with a roundup of pre-loved goods (the vintage pony hair purse is long gone but oh my word). I love that Glenn focuses on such distinct details for her moodboards, highlighting textures and fabrication rather than a full ensemble.
Fell For
An arguably too-good wine glass sold on BOMI. I have been on the hunt for an embarrassingly long time for a short-stemmed goblet-style glass suitable for wine, cocktails, mocktails, or anything I feel like sipping from a fancy glass. This wine glass perfectly fits the bill. The beauty of having such delicate, intentional pieces littered throughout your home is that you can use them whenever you want. There are no limits to consumption, or the vessels in which we consume. You make the rules! And in this house, we sip apple juice or Boylan’s Black Cherry soda out of a wine glass.
Took In
A clean home. I love my apartment. I love the way the light brushes through the living room at 6pm on a Sunday. I love the way the smoke from the taper candles dances into the air when George (my dog) huffs and puffs past the coffee table. There’s something special about loving being at home, surrounded by your belongings, more than enjoying the outside world. Cal and I have put so much thought and effort into curating our space, doing so slowly to capture the essence of each of our styles.
Fun fact: most of the things in our home are second-hand. The blend of old and new creates such a welcoming environment, so naturally we try to host friends as often as we can. Not pictured is the tumbleweed of dog hair blowing by my foot as I organized this corner of our house to look absolute immaculate for the photo. When I say I take it in, I truly do, as the cleanliness doesn’t usually last long.
Window Shopped
If you’re a size 7.5 loafer lover, run—don’t walk—to The RealReal for these leather scalloped loafers by Prada. With a visit to your trusty local cobbler, these beauties will be as good as new. The best part? They’re already broken in. I’m on the hunt for a very specific loafer right now, and am still eyeing the Veronica Beard suede penny loafers, otherwise these would be halfway to my house by now. I rarely share my TRR finds, but when I do, you know they’re good (at least by my standards).

Oh my goodness, thank you so much for the kind words! I'm so happy to hear my mood board feels resonated with you ✨
Also, your home is absolutely gorgeous - that couch is a dream!
Oh my gosh! Is that your brown sofa? It’s such an incredible colour! Loving all your newsletters, thanks for sharing.
